About PMG®

Personal Mobile Gateway technology (PMG®) combines cellular (e.g. GSM/GPRS, CDMA, etc.) and short distance wireless (e.g. Bluetooth or other technologies like WiFi), with micro-router and micro-server functionalities. It is the point of connection between the wireless network and the new category of affordable and best-of-breed mobile devices for consumers (PMG Companions). The PMG can be a stand-alone device the size of a small mint box, or integrated into a cellular phone. Also, the PMG and the Personal Area Network (PAN) can be remotely managed by the mobile operator.

PMG Companion devices (e.g. watches, MP3 players, messaging terminals, gaming devices, cameras) deliver a superior user experience, while still focused on fashion and budget. PMG Companions cost less to manufacture, can be brought to market much faster than ordinary mobile phones or smartphones, and generate greater mobile data usage.

IXI is the inventor of PMG technology, and PMG is one of the distinguishing features of IXI-Connect OS™.

PMG enables:
An unprecedented variety of fashionable, function-optimized devices
Low-cost, innovative mobile devices
Ideal form factors and ergonomics
Superior mobile devices to be brought to market faster and at a lower cost
Interoperability and shared data (pictures, contacts, addresses, etc.) among all Personal Area Network (PAN) devices

PMG devices bring additional revenues to mobile operators and manufacturers by enabling high-value products and services to be delivered to mobile users. The software on the PMG can be upgraded over-the-air by mobile operators, decreasing the frequency of device replacement and extending product life. The PMG offers consumers the ability to optimize their mobile experience incrementally: adding to their collection of connected devices according to their budget, over time, and by using a single subscription for the entire collection.

An IXI-enabled phone is a lot more than just a Bluetooth phone. A PMG phone is more than a standard Bluetooth phone as it includes a MicroRouter, a MicroServer and an Applications Server. Those functions simplify communication with and management of other Bluetooth devices and provide services like thin terminal support and content sharing that are not available with a Bluetooth phone that does not include IXI software.
