The PMG software solution is the core software that runs on the PMG. It provides a seamless bridge between the Personal Area Network (PAN) and the cellular network, establishing the PMG as a mobile, pocket-size micro-router and micro-server. The PMG shares a single IP address among multiple PAN-enabled devices and supports thin as well as thick terminals by providing remote terminal drivers and GUI services. The software facilitates over-the-air downloading of plug-ins and applications. Examples of plug-ins include firewall, tunneling, billing agents, and Man-Machine-Interface (MMI) applications.

To support PMG-based product development, IXI provides IXI-Studio - a Software Development Kit (SDK) and support tool for hardware developers and application software developers, as well as IXI-Manage, a remote management tool for PMG devices and PMG Companions.
